Welcome to the April edition.

April highlights include Coachella, Earth Day, National Stress Awareness Month, The Grammys, and Unicorn Day, just to name a few. Not sure how to incorporate them into your social media strategy? We’ll show you!

Spring Cleaning

All season

Out with the old and in with the new! This is a great opportunity for educational content. Whatever your industry, you can offer tips and tricks on spring cleaning.

  • Interior designers or home furnishing brands should focus on decluttering spaces.
  • Makeup artists and beauty brands can teach others when it’s time to get rid of skin care products.
  • Culinary brands or chefs should focus on cleaning out the fridge or offer cleansing recipes.
  • Technology brands and thought leaders should discuss managing screen time and social media consumption with tips on how to declutter your virtual life.

National Stress Awareness Month

April 1–30

I love me an awareness month. It’s a constant source of inspiration for videos and feed posts. Stress can come in many forms—physical stress, chronic stress, workplace stress, financial stress, and more.

Educate your audience with a carousel post on the negative effects of certain stressors on children, women, men, or a particular minority group as it relates to your passions and the values of your brand.

Another approach—share relatable memes about stress. You could even record a short entertaining video with tips on managing stress in a given situation, set to a trending sound.

April Fools Day

Friday, April 1, 2022

Pranks are prime TikTok content. Look for trending pranks and then keep an eye on your FYP in the week leading up to April 1st to see which one is going viral and use it on your family, friends, or co-workers. You can also find creative ways to sike! your audience if you have a loyal following.

International Children's Book Day

Saturday, April 2nd, 2022

Founded by the International Board on Books for Young People, this commemorative day is held on Hans Christian Andersen's birthday. It is a day to celebrate children's literature and the love of reading. Post a quote from your favorite childrens’ book. If you want to make a difference, ask your followers to donate funds or books to go toward children in low-income communities or library deserts.

The Grammy Awards

Sunday, April 3rd, 2022

The 64th annual Grammy awards take place in Las Vegas this year and feature performances by Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, and BTS.

You don’t want to miss out on an event that everyone’s watching. One way for brands or influencers to participate is to offer commentary on Twitter, reacting to winner announcements and what celebrities are wearing.

The Grammys are a good source for memes and GIFs. So keep an eye out for what’s trending in the days following the Grammys and find ways to incorporate it into your content strategy.

Maya Angelou's Birthday

Monday, April 4, 2022

Maya Angelou, American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist, was born on April 4th, 1928. Share your favorite Maya Angelou quote or discuss a passage from one of her literary works you are moved by. No matter your niche, sharing authentically and honoring amazing humans is always welcome on social media.

World Health Day

Tuesday, April 5th, 2022

Founded by the WHO (World Health Organization, each year World Health Day focuses on a different theme. This year’s topic is “Our planet, our health,” with the following prompts to create change:“

  • Are we able to reimagine a world where clean air, water, and food are available to all?
  • Where economies are focused on health and well-being?
  • Where cities are liveable and people have control over their health and the health of the planet?

Purpose-driven brands and influencers wanting to make a difference in the world can speak to these questions and create content that inspires followers. Besides the 2022 theme, there are tons of world health causes and relevant hashtags. Here are some hashtags direct from the WHO Instagram:

National Burrito Day

April 7, 2022 (the first Thursday of the month)

Food-based holidays are a free for all. You don’t need a valid reason or tie in to your brand. Everyone loves food, so don’t be afraid to head over to your favorite Mexican food truck, order a burrito for lunch, and share the moment with your followers to wish them a Happy Burrito Day.

We love how the ramen brand, Nonshim creatively celebrates National Burrito Day with a Chapaguri burrito.

International Feng Shui Awareness Day

Friday, April 8, 2022

Feng Shui is an ancient philosophy and practice that governs the positioning of buildings and the objects in them with respect to energy and the elements in order to create harmonious spaces. Main tenets of this system have made their way into Western culture.

Architects, interior designers, and home furnishing brands can adopt elements of feng shui into their work and share posts of designs influenced by feng shui principles.

Unicorn Day

Saturday, April 9, 2022

Whether or not the unicorn is your spirit animal, the possibilities for social media posts are endless. Unicorns have been seen, shared, and represented in a variety of ways across the business, gaming, LGBTQ+, retail, makeup, hair, toy, education, and many more communities.

In the world of business and finance, a unicorn startup is a company valued at over $1 billion. In the world of hair, unicorn hair is the latest color craze, featuring pastel rainbow strands. Even unicorn vomit is a thing. Head over to Snapchat to check out the many unicorn filters. But don’t expect to find the famous unicorn rainbow vomit filter which has been, sadly, discontinued.

Practically, unicorn inspired posts can include incorporating the classic unicorn colors around a new product launch or mission statement or celebrate a major, one-of-a-kind milestone. Whatever it is, find the unicorn in your community and celebrate it today.

National Siblings Day

Sunday, April 10, 2022

This can be an opportunity to get referrals or generate an influx of business. Offer a discount, freebie, or perk for siblings if it is appropriate to your products or services.

For example, “Siblings each get 20% off their first month when they register together,” or “Dine with a sibling and you each get a free dessert.” It might be hard to verify the relation—are they sisters or BFFs?—but you’d generate buzz and get a ton of shares on social

National Pet Day

Monday, April 11, 2022

Animals rule short-form video content and captivate viewers across all demographics and generations.

If you have a pet armadillo, serval, or chinchilla, they deserve their own following any day of the year. Otherwise, get your dog or cat to do something quirky, and set it to a trending sound on Reels, Shorts, or TikTok. Between these three platforms, try to find crossover trends to repurpose your pet content and maximize your reach.

National Tax Day

Friday, April 15, 2022

No one looks forward to doing their taxes. They look forward to getting it over with or getting a refund if they’re lucky.

Ecommerce brands do well with suggestions to splurge on their products with tax refunds or suggestions to treat yo’self because taxes are… well, taxing. If you don’t sell goods or services, relatable tax season memes should do the trick.

Brands in the financial sector such as banks, financial planning services, payment apps, and CPAs—this is your time to shine! Take advantage of the weeks leading up to tax day with valuable tips on tax prep or lessons on personal finance and wealth. And mix it up with funny tax memes (see a greatest hits compilation below).

Coachella

April 15–24, 2022

The Coachella Festival is a big deal each year, and has been the inspiration for many memes. This year they are launching Coachella Collectibles NFTs, digital artwork including keys that unlock VIP experiences on site. Social media managers should follow @coachella on IG as they post updates.

Headlining performers for 2022 are Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and Kanye West with supporting acts such as Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat. What do most of these artists have in common? They have been the source of trending, viral sounds on both TikTok.

During the days of the Coachella festival, focus on using those trending sounds in your videos. And keep an eye on your TikTok FYP and your IG Reels tab for emerging trends as the festival unfolds.

Easter Sunday

Sunday, April 17, 2022

Easter is symbolic of the arrival of Spring. Stick to pastel colors and imagery such as decorated eggs, chicks, bunnies, and flowers in your creative assets. To increase engagement, create gamified content such as a virtual egg hunt.

Some businesses adjust their product lines or offer an Easter Sunday discount. If your business persona includes a sense of humor, share memes related to marshmallow peeps or ridiculous Easter bonnets.

Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day

Monday, April 19, 2022

For the better part of two years, many of us have been working from home in our pajamas—at least from the waist down—which kind of takes the punch out of this “holiday.”

Whether you’re still home, or back at the office, take a sarcastic approach: Wrap yourself in a blanket, take a selfie, and craft a caption like, “It’s been #wearyourpajamastoworkday since April 2020,” and post it as an IG Story.

#wearyourpajamastoworkday #pyjamaday

Here is a great example of a brand taking advantage of a holiday hashtag and a trending sound to advertise a product

420 Day

Tuesday, April, 20, 2022

Why is the number 420 associated with cannabis culture? It’s a long story. But the connection to this number has become so widespread it’s even made its way into legislation.

One of the most major events around 4/20 is the Denver 420 Colorado Cannabis Week, hosted by Colorado Cannabis Tours with events, festivals, and concerts featuring performers like Method Man, Redman, and Cypress Hill.

A reason to get behind this holiday whether you smoke weed or not includes advocating for the legalization of marijuana both to prevent unnecessary incarceration in minority communities and for therapeutic or medical applications.

National High Five Day

Wednesday, April 21, 2022

The high five is a gesture to celebrate the wins with others. Perfect for any social media account, you can use high five day to give a shout-out to a person or brand on social media that deserves praise, including your co-workers and staff.

Or you could go with the is-it-a-prayer-emoji-or-a-high-five-emoji debate to generate funny, polarizing comments on a post, increasing your engagement. The debate peaked in 2021 when Jennifer Love Hewitt issued an apology on IG Stories for using the emoji incorrectly.

Earth Day

Thursday, April 22, 2022

This is one of those holidays where we can all come together and show support. Major brands will participate in efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

For any brand, educational content is an excellent choice. Share with your followers how you or your business has lessened its impact on the Earth and give them actionable tips on how they can do the same.
